Supergirl in the Multiverse: Earth: AC

We have once again been met with a universe without an official universe designation, that being the home to the Ame-Comi Girls. Similar to the Bombshells universe of Earth-24, this line was also started not on the pages of a comic, but with collectible statues. The comics began showing up (digitally first) in 2012 with the statues releasing soon before. Aside from a loose anime/manga influence (hence the name “Ame-Comi” or a loose approximation of “American Comics”  or “アメコミ”) this universe offers few dissimilarities to the main DC Universe. This is a world where only females have super powers but for the most part we don’t have female versions of male superheroes, and instead just have female heroes growing to prominence without the getting overshadowed by what is generally a boys club.

On the comics side, there are 2 volumes of the series, the first being a 5 issue miniseries which then launched a 8 issue ongoing series. The miniseries was somewhat set up as character introduction one-shots for Wonder Woman, Batgirl&Robin, Duella Dent, Power Girl, and Supergirl. However there is a clear linear storyline through this miniseries so the issues don’t really work as one-shots. The Supergirl side of this universe does actually have a slight variation, although not with Supergirl but her cousin Kara Jor-El. Kara Jor-El landed on Earth a couple decades ago and grew up on a farm in Smallville with the Kents until moving to the big city and becoming the hero Power Girl. Supergirl on the other hand has a fairly standard stasis-type origin (check out my Supergirl Timeline post for more explanation of this). I do find it odd that both Jor-El and Zor-El named their daughters “Kara” and the continuing story of Ame-Comi doesn’t help much with this issue either.

Supergirl specifically in this story gets sidelined a lot as Power Girl takes center stage. In the first arc, Supergirl doesn’t show up until the last chapter and soon gets infected by black Kryptonite by Brainiac and is put on ice until issue 4 of the ongoing where the team is able to remove the black-k infection. Supergirl would help the rest of the team against the threat of Sinestra weilding both yellow and black power rings. Sinestra turns Supergirl (and the rest of the team) into zombified black lanterns before being set right by Metra. After this successful battle against Sinestra though, Supergirl never shows up again and it’s uncertain if Metra decided to bring her back or not after re-setting the universe (I do not have the time or space to fully explain the events of this storyline and I also cannot recommend you reading it yourself).
